Past Events & Great IdeasKids A.C.T. of EdenwoodKayla and KacieThe girls did a few projects for the children at Richland Memorial"s Cancer Clinic. With their friends, they collected goodies, candy and even money. They made Halloween baskets for the 6 children who were admitted for treatment the week of Halloween. For Christmas, they got their school involved. Fifth graders made wreaths to hang on the children's doors at the hospital and the fourth graders chorus dedicated their "Christmas Around the World" concert to the clinic. They video taped the entire program and donated it to the clinic. (Great idea!) The children watched the video while receiving chemo treatment on a outpatient basis. Their school is becoming more excited about helping others and trying to make things a little brighter for those who are down and out. Outstanding job!!! Kids A.C.T. of PottsvilleAmie and JennaThese girls, with members of their chapter, were inspired at school during a discussion about leukemia and wanted to help. A meeting was held and a dance-a-thon was organized to raise money to fight leukemia! The price to get in was $2.00 and 197 people showed up! They raised $394.00 that they gave to St. Jude's, a charity for kids with leukemia. They advertised by posting a note on the school bulletin. They wanted to do more so they raised money by running errands for neighbors and having a craft show. They bought toys for the kids at St. Judes and visited them in person!!! A job well done!!!Kids A.C.T. of BaltimoreKatyHelping the homeless is something Katy does with her school. Canned goods and toys were donated to the homeless and along with other helpers Katy spent a couple of hours making them hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Katy and a bunch of her friends volunteered to be "waitresses" at their church's annual spaghetti dinner. She also baked a few dozen cookies to send down to her old school's daycare center. She then participated in a bowl-a-thon for Cystic Fibrosis. Katy is particularly interested in this because a friend of hers has the disease. They raised over $500.00 for their cause. Fabulous job!!!Teens A.C.T. of ArizonaKimThe Broadway Proper talent show was a big success for Senior Citizens! Kim met a new friend there who is blind and now Kim goes to read to her. Kim also showed her support in fighting AIDS and marched in the AIDS walk. She also helped in the Spookival at her school by decorating classrooms, making a haunted house and helping with treats. They raised $162.00 to be used toward shipping school supplies to Haiti and some is going toward a foreign exchange program. Also, Kim is will be a exchange student this summer in Paris, France! Hmmm....Will you tell them about Teens A.C.T. in France for us, Kim? You're a great asset to your community!!!
